o you want to help? Have you got some free time and want to help us support victims or take forward our human rights, and equalities agenda in a voluntary capacity?
The demanding agenda of the Monitoring Group is taken forward by a highly committed staff team, supported by a large, loyal and dedicated team of volunteers. There are opportunities for volunteering in all areas of the organisation, and we promote a culture of fully integrated paid and unpaid staff. Without the input of volunteers it would be very difficult to achieve all that we do.
Volunteers work with us in a variety of ways:
During the day – working in the office for half a day a week doing administrative work, answering the telephone, dealing with post, filing, monitoring the press and other office tasks.
On our Freephone Helpline – working from home taking calls from victims requiring advice and support, taking statements. We will provide full training and a back up support when you are on duty.
In our Wednesday evening advise surgery – which runs weekly on Wednesdays, dealing with clients, taking statements, filing, and a variety of other tasks.
With special events - helping out at fundraising events, conferences and other events on a casual basis.
Volunteers are integrated alongside paid staff across the full range of our activities. We provide induction, training, support and development. We are fully committed to improving our volunteer policy and procedures and encourage feedback. It is proposed to initiate a specific volunteer forum later in the year for this purpose. A volunteer newsletter is proposed as well. We hold an volunteers evening once a quarter; if you are interested in receiving information about volunteering with the Monitoring Group and the next volunteers evening or if you have any queries – please contact us by phone or email.
