Birmingham man murdered in suspected racial attack

Police suspect that a man found stabbed in Yorkshire may have been murdered in a racially motivated attack.

Mohammed Saleem Khan, aged 36, was discovered slumped at the wheel of his delivery van in the market town of Easingwold, in Yorkshire, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The van had crashed into bollards and it was initially thought the driver may have been fatally injured in the accident.

But a post mortem examination revealed Mr Khan had sustained a single stab wound to the neck.

A 26-year-old man has been held on suspicion of murder. A woman, 20, and two men, aged 21 and 25, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Det Ch Insp Heather Pearson, of North Yorkshire Police, said: “At this time there is information that has come in to the investigation team that would suggest there may have been a racial element to the attack.

“It is early in the investigation and I am keeping an open mind.”
