Cardiff councillor calls for ban on anti-Muslim US preacher

A Cardiff councillor has called for the home secretary to ban a controversial US pastor from entering the UK to share his views on Islam with far-right activists.

Muslim councillor Mohammed Islam, who represents the multi-ethnic community of Riverside in Cardiff, said he believed the visit by Pastor Terry Jones would stoke up tensions between communities.

Pastor Jones planned a mass burning of the Qur’an on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, sparking worldwide condemnation. Jones wants to come to the UK next year to address the English Defence league about “the evils of Islam” at a rally in Luton in February.
