Council tenant convicted on racial abuse charges

At Luton Magistrates Court on Tuesday 8 December, Shamus Arthurs, formerly of 3 Wetherne Link, was found guilty of ‘disorderly behaviour to cause another harassment, alarm or distress which was racially aggravated’. He has been fined £140, and ordered to pay £715 costs and £100 compensation. Cllr Tom Shaw, portfolio holder for housing, said: “We will not tolerate tenants who abuse their tenancy agreement by acting in this deplorable manner. Racial harassment is an appalling crime and it is absolutely unacceptable that a council tenant would put one of our hard working staff members through this ordeal.”
