Exeter man jailed after racial abuse

DRUNKEN thug Jason Maloney has been jailed for shouting racist abuse and then punching an Asian youngster on a train.

Judge Graham Cottle insisted on sending Maloney, 27, of Sivell Place, Heavitree, Exeter, to prison for three months instead of giving him a suspended sentence at Exeter Crown Court. Maloney had been convicted of racially aggravated assault at an earlier hearing.

Judge Cottle said: “I’m not going to be restrained by legal guidelines after what I’ve seen.” The judge had viewed CCTV footage on a laptop of Maloney’s behaviour before and after the attack. He told the court: “If you’d been on that train or any self-respecting member of the public had been, you’d have been horrified or terrified.”
