Five arrested in anti-terror raids
Police detain men after early morning operation in Manchester, Bolton and Heathrow
Five men have been arrested as part of a 15-month investigation by the north-west counter-terrorism unit. Four were held in Greater Manchester and one near Heathrow. Addresses in Greater Manchester were searched with warrants under the Terrorism Act 2000. The operation began at 4am, when the first arrests were made. Raids took place in Levenshulme, Longsight and Fallowfield The four men held in Greater Manchester are aged between 21 and 62. A fifth man, a 26-year-old, was arrested at a hotel near Heathrow. Houses in Bolton and Stalybridge were also raided. Approximately 40 officers were involved and the raids were related to an alleged overseas threat, Greater Manchester police said.
