Police have charged a man with attempted murder following an attack at a Mold supermarket which left another man with “serious life-changing” injuries.

Zack Davies, 25, of King Street, Mold, was arrested on Wednesday afternoon following an incident at the town’s Tesco store, and is due to appear at Wrexham Magistrates Court today.

Detectives say they are treating the attack as a “hate-related, racially and religiously motivated” incident and confirm the 24-year-old victim remains in hospital.

They say he has suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries and he and his family are now being supported by specialist family liaison officers.

Senior Investigating Officer DCI Alun Oldfield said: “I would like to reassure the local community that this appears to be an isolated incident and from our enquiries to date we believe Davies was acting alone and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with this assault.

“Crimes of this nature are extremely rare and we are encouraged by the large number of witnesses who have so far come forward to help us build a complete picture of what took place, however if others can also assist I’d ask they contact police.
