Pre-Christmas shopping fears over EDL march

WORRIED shopkeepers are calling for a right wing group to cancel a pre-Christmas march in Peterborough, as its leader prepares to map out the protest.

Traders fear the English Defence League (EDL) march through Peterborough on December 11 – the penultimate Saturday before Christmas – will ruin one of the busiest shopping days of the year.

EDL leader Gurmeet Singh and spokesman Tommy Robinson will tomorrow (9 November) inspect Peterborough city centre to map out their route for the 45 minute march, which they expect to attract 2,000 supporters.

The Peterborough Trade Union Council (PTUC) has also warned it will stage its own protest to counter the march.
