TWO teenagers face jail for a racial attack on the elderly father of a Ponteland restaurant owner.

Anthony Thompson and Nathan West left Abdolkhalegh Ziaei, 67, needing more than five hours of hospital treatment when they assaulted him outside Lorenzo’s Pizza shop in Ponteland.

The Ziaei family said they were punched, spat at and racially abused at around 11pm on July 25.

The hoodie-wearing attackers, both 18, denied the assault, but were told they faced up to six months in jail after being found guilty of assault by beating at Tynedale Magistrates’ Court. Thompson was also convicted of a racially-motivated public order offence after a witness described him throwing a bottle towards Mr Ziaei and shouting racist insults.
