Vulnerable are betrayed by authorities, says Mencap charity

Learning disability charity Mencap said Frankie Hardwick was betrayed by the authorities who should have been protecting her.

Mark Goldring, the charity’s chief executive, said: “These horrific deaths are yet another tragic example of how a vulnerable young person with a learning disability, and her family, have been completely betrayed by the authorities responsible for their care. “Mencap believes this should be the watershed moment for disability hate crime, when the Government and the police treat it as seriously as racist hate crime. If this does not happen, the 1.5 million people with a learning disability will continue to be victims of abuse and torture.
