Women injured in racial attack in Plymouth

POLICE are hunting a group of racist thugs who abused and then attacked three women and a man as they walked through the city centre.

The victims, four British Asians, aged in their early 20s, were in New George Street at around 1.45am on February 27 having just left a nightclub. They were set upon by the yobs, two men and two women, who began to shout racist abuse after being left angry the victims did not have any cigarettes to give them.

The victims were followed from Armada Way into the upper part of New George Street, whereupon the male victim was attacked, initially by one of the females in the second group, but later the two other men joined the assault.

The three British Asian women attempted to protect their male friend, but were then also attacked by the other two men, suffering bruising and cuts, some of which required stitches.

The first attacker was a white woman aged between 16 and 20, between 5ft 5ins and 5ft 7ins tall, of athletic build with dark hair tied back. She wore a white coat, possibly with a hood.

The second attacker was a white male, aged between 16 and 25 years, of medium build and with short black hair.

The third attacker was a white girl, aged between 15 and 16 years, about 5ft tall with very dark brown hair. She was of chubby build, and was wearing a black hooded top.

The fourth attacker was a white youth, aged around 16 or 17, 6ft tall, of chubby build, with short light brown hair and was wearing a blue tracksuit top. Police say they are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen this group during the evening of February 26 or into the early hours of February 27. Anyone with information about the incident should call police on 08452 777444 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111 quoting crime reference number EC/10/2047.
